A very successful and growing company with over $2 billion dollars in sales has an excellent opportunity available for a Tooling Engineer with experience in plastic injection molding. The Tooling Engineer is a plant expert on mold design, part design, and other areas requiring injection mold engineering functions. The Tooling Engineer works directly with design engineering on new and existing projects. Assists the manufacturing/tooling area with technical assistance and support.
Job Description:
- Provide technical assistance to a manufacturing facility in tool repair, engineering changes and process problems due to tool design.
- Root cause analysis of systematic tooling issues and implementation of solutions.
- Lead portions of tooling procurement for new and refurbished molds, including vendor selection and development.
- Manage projects in a manner to assure product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborative with and provide technical assistance to new product development engineers for a maintenance-based perspective on mold designs.
- Support toolroom activities when necessary.
- Execute and oversee changes to tooling.
- Must be able to travel as needed to complete job requirements. Up to 5%.
- Support manufacturing management in lean/continuous improvement planning and activities.
- Evaluate issues in production molding environment, work with process, maintenance and automation teams to implement short-term solutions. Collaborate with respective departments to implement long-term solution to issues.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
- Assess mold health and forecast maintenance needs for customers annually.
Requirements:
- BS degree in Engineering Technology or a related discipline, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in injection mold design and build; or a combination of education and experience that enables performance in all aspects of the position.
- In-depth knowledge of injection molding process.
- 3D CAD skills.
- Sufficient analytical skills to assess problems or unusual situations and develop documented solutions.
- The ability to use statistical methods to analyze process capability.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical users.
- Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to OSHA and FDA.
- In-depth knowledge of large-scale production and manufacturing.
