Job Description

Well established manufacturing company in Elkhart, IN has an excellent opportunity available for a Buyer/Scheduler.  The Buyer/Scheduler is responsible for managing the material flow to meet customer orders while balancing capacity, production and inventory.  Additional responsibilities include:  providing a production schedule that meets demand with the overall objective of maximum customer satisfaction, lowest cost of production, and control of inventory to optimize turns, and purchasing of raw materials in the most cost effective manner with due consideration for price, quality, specifications, and other general requirements. 


Job Duties:


  • Schedule factory work orders to balance available capacity with near-term demand.
  • Leads the analysis to level capacity load as required in the execution horizon.  Identify capacity shortages and high utilization periods through the planning horizon. 
  • Communicate supply / demand issues and resolution status through appropriate management chain.
  • Responsible for the coordination/planning of materials to meet customer delivery requirements by identifying materials to be expedited or de-expedited in a manner that will prevent material shortages and potential obsolescence.
  • Support and aid management in decision making by providing production plans and implementing purchasing strategies.
  • Assist Engineers with identification of changes needed on BOM’s, routings, item masters, and obsolescence by initiating engineering change requests.
  • Place and track purchase orders from internal and MRP system generated requirements, arranging for the delivery of materials in the most effective manner to support production and inventory constraints.
  • Minimize the cost of buying, transporting, and storing purchased materials and services.  Assist in customer negotiating of contracts for supplies and materials, and monitor compliance.
  • Review and supply corrected information for accounts payable to resolve discrepancies on vendor invoices.
  • Responsible for inventory turns management and improvement.  Coordinate material/vendor changes to avoid obsolescence of materials.
  • If applicable, lead the monthly demand forecast process cycle across all product families.


Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or related field.  Minimum 3-years of experience in production scheduling/purchasing experience in an MRP II system; APICS certification preferred.
  • Experience in purchasing/production scheduling and/or general materials planning experience in an ERP system.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and production planning.  Sound knowledge of varied production and quality assurance operations.
  • Fundamental understand of ERP requirements and processes.
  • Familiarity with general office equipment and Microsoft Office/Oracle software.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, reasoning/analysis skills.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Some travel; local once or twice a year.
