Function:
Job Description
The Senior Chemist works to help improve existing coatings and develop new coating products and test coating properties. The Senior Chemist will work in the R&D laboratory, manufacturing floor and the field to investigate and develop coatings pertinent to the projects assigned by the R&D Manager and technical leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must follow all established safety rules and procedures.
- Additive studies
- Raw material qualification
- Support continuous improvement projects
- Support scale up manufacturing and process improvements for new and existing products
- Design, perform, analyze and summarize assigned experiments.
- Test developed products; both application and performance.
- Maintain detailed records in the lab notebook.
- Set QC standards if required.
- Responsible for record keeping and reporting of QC data and maintenance of samples.
- Produce formulas for manufacturing, if required.
- Support new product launches.
- Ability to follow protocols for research projects.
- All other duties as required.
Requirements:
Job Requirements
Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or related field
- 4-6 years of experience in coatings, adhesives or sealants
- Experience with mechanical properties testing
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

- Familiar with product development cycle, Stage Gate process
- Microsoft Project experience a PLUS!
