Our client, a producer of coated fabrics for the defense and aerospace industry is seeking an experienced Chemist, with a background in polymer science and rubber coated fabrics. Candidates must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder to be considered for this opportunity.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Conduct research, analysis, and experimentation on compounds and raw materials to support product and process development and application using quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques to perform the following duties:

 

  • Develop and modify formulas, processes, and methods for solution of technical problems
  • Document experimental work, including writing standard test methods and technical reports
  • Monitor the quality of rubber compounds, calendered and extruded components, and raw material using instrumental analysis techniques (HPLC, GC‐MS, FTIR, thermogravimetry and rheometric)
  • Conduct processing trials at mixers, extruders, calenders, fabric coating machines, autoclaves or curing presses
  • Translate fundamental chemistry/polymer concepts for problem solving
  • Suggest and/or implements new processes to improve manufacturing operations
  • Prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests
  • Assist in finding and implementing solutions for bladder applications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science
  • 1‐5 years of industrial experience
  • Rubber & plastic processing or compounding experience (rubber coated fabric processing experience preferred)
  • Experience with some or all analytical instruments provided
  • Ability to work as a team member in a production environment
  • Communicate effectively with peers, management, suppliers and customers
  • Provide hands‐on technical leadership with strong analytical and proven problem‐solving skills
