Large medical products company in New York is searching for a Sr. Plastics Engineer.
Specific Job Duties:
Medical product design & development
Project management of new product/tool qualifications
Identification and selection of molding materials
Critique part designs for Design of Manufacturability and optimum molding performance
Critique tool designs for robust mechanical design and optimum molding performance
Manage activities with external suppliers, both molders and tool makers
Support tooling debug and process development with suppliers
Design and execute experiments (DOEs) to optimize manufacturing process performance
Identify opportunities for cost savings and supply chain risk reduction
Execute process validations with suppliers
Education: BS/MS in Plastics or Mechanical Engineering
Experience: Plastics injection molding, injection blow molding, injection stretch blow molding and extrusion blow molding experience; preferably manufacturing based. The desired candidate has demonstrated skills in plastic components design, tooling expertise, process development and validation, project management and familiarity with FDA regulated products. Supervisory skills are certified design of Six Sigma experience are a plus.
Special Skills: Familiar with manufacturing environment. Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities. Experienced with Design for Manufacturing concepts, working knowledge of materials, injection molding and blow molding fabrication methods. Design of Experiments (DOE) experience.
Must possess strong communication and interactive skills; capable of working independently or on project teams as required. Familiar with product and process development phase/gate methodology. Leadership ability to develop plastics engineering core competency.
